Absinthe River was formed in late 2012, when Steve Stanulonis introduced bandmate Bob Szekely and old school friend Rob Rakoczy to each other to start work on new material. Both Rob and Bob had home project studios and had recorded demos before. The band name was Rob Rakoczy's idea (as he'd had a previous 'affair' with the "Green Fairy".)
